Northlake Performing Arts Society (NPAS)
NPAS is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to enhance and enrich the cultural life on the Northshore by using choral music as a catalyst to embrace and promote other art forms. Singers of all levels are invited to try out for the chorus and develop their skills as singers.
In addition to performing major classical works such as Handel's Messiah and the Mozart and Brahms Requiem, the chorus also presents semi-staged Broadway/operetta productions and contemporary literature encompassing patriotic music, folk songs, and revues. NPAS repertoire over the past few years has included Country Western, Broadway, music from the 60's , a madrigal dinner, and Carmina Burana, a collaboration between Southeastern Louisiana University Choirs and NPAS.
NPAS will continue to raise funds annually to provide a $500 college scholarship for a local student majoring in music at a college or university. NPAS is considering creating an auditioned children's chorus which will perform jointly with NPAS. Additionally, NPAS is planning to perform concerts in new and non-traditional venues throughout the Northshore region to share its music with an even larger audience.
