NolaVie has fully completed their educational branch in order to support emerging New Orleans writers, and we have paired classes and workshops with Tulane University, Xavier University, University of New Orleans, and Bard Early College New Orleans. We continue to dedicate our work to covering arts, culture, and community organizations in New Orleans.
In 2022, NolaVie continued its mission to support non-profits and arts and culture institutions by writing about our cultural vanguards (that don't often get the spotlight), the vibrant events in the city (even the virtual ones), and the community work that aims at making this city more cohesive, inclusive, and accepting. Our archive has over 7,500 pieces permanently tagged and housed at Tulane University, and we continue to offer creative platforms for students, interns, writers, educator, citizens, and journalists. We added over 800 stories in 2022 -- including the Solution-Journalism series that offers data-driven, accessible solutions to fix the issues in New Orleans (aka, get your street paved) and the "Dear Big Chem EZ" series that answers local scientific questions with understandable responses -- and we partnered with schools to establish journalism workshops, classes, and internships in the digital format.
Our partnerships extended to more than 50 organizations in 2022 (and we're continuing to grow and connect with community organizations in 2023), and we even set-up a service-learning class that puts students together with our local non-profits. Our goal is to not only link together New Orleans citizens and cultural institutions in the name of education and diversification, but we also aim to provide coverage for emerging artists and emerging programs that want to build and support the arts and culture livelihood in this great city of New Orleans.
"Thank you so much for printing my piece, and I can't wait to submit some more pieces to you." (From Zharia Jeffries, who wrote about being a Black student on Tulane).
"I found the magazine to be outstanding!" Ana Lopez, a fan and reader.
