New Orleans Abortion Fund

NOAF was founded with the purpose of challenging socioeconomic inequalities by providing financial help to people who cannot afford the full cost of an abortion. We affirm a person's right to control their body and destiny and work to ensure that all people have access to quality medical care, regardless of their economic situation. We provide compassionate and empowering assistance to people seeking abortions who are unable to fully fund their abortion and distribute as available.

Since NOAF began distributing pledges, we have funded over 1,000 clients. In the last fiscal year, our average pledge was $175. Our clients represent the diversity of our New Orleans community. The average client age is 27, and the age range is 14-43. More than two-thirds of the people we serve are mothers (68.6%), and a majority of our clients are religious (82%).

Currently, there are only three private clinics available across the whole state of Louisiana, leaving 61 parishes without a clinic. What makes matters worse is the cost of abortions in Louisiana exceeds the national average and women in Louisiana make $0.65 to a man's dollar. Through our advocacy work, NOAF is trying to change legislation that currently dictates that no state funding or insurance can be used for abortion services. Louisiana currently has 12 abortion restrictions in place including a ban on all abortions past 20 weeks.
"I'm a proud supporter of NOAF because I know firsthand the barriers to accessing abortion services in New Orleans and NOAF is working to reduce those barriers including stigma. I'm drawn to this work because access to safe abortions is our legal right and restrictions to abortions restrict women's access to rights in general." - Tara Zapp, NOAF Grant & Development Coordinator

"It is one of the greatest honors of my life to escort at the clinic and to coordinate escorts weekly. For two years now, starting in March 2016, we have escorted every week at the abortion provider in New Orleans." - Winter Randall, NOAF Clinic Escort Coordinator

"I volunteer with NOAF because I grew up in Louisiana and know how hard it can be to have discussions about abortion access and care in many of our communities. The NOAF hotline is such an important resource for women to get the information and resources they need, and just to be heard." - Christina McLennan, NOAF Client Services Member
