LVI's mission is to help young adults obtain the skills and knowledge to become gainfully employed in the environmental industry or conservation field, build a hopeful future, develop civic pride and establish life-long conservation skills and attitudes. LVI provides training in a non-traditional setting that combines classroom learning with outdoor activities geared toward protecting the environment. LVI members work closely with the National Park Service, US Fish and Wildlife, New Orleans City Park, and other public agencies and organizations to restore local environments. LVI members perform water quality sampling and testing, plant native trees and grasses, conduct invasive species eradication, perform feral pig impact assessments, and participate in other activities that improve public lands and trails. LVI helps members develop civic pride, conservation values, and environmental stewardship through hands-on community service learning projects.

Testimonials

Environmental and conservation field technicians can work for many different types of firms, agencies, and organizations. They are not limited to just one field. LVI graduates have gone to work as Wastewater Operators and Pump Station Operators, for various sewer and water agencies and firms, as technicians for environmental and geotechnical firms, and as safety professionals at local refineries and manufacturing plants.
