In a city known for food and abundance, many young people experience food insecurity and lack of access to opportunity. Louisiana has been ranked last in the nation in its educational outcomes and is one of the least economically mobile cities in the world. Additionally, more people are incarcerated per capita in New Orleans than in any other place in the world. The loss of potential and the cost to society is staggering.

Liberty's Kitchen responds to this context by providing pathways for New Orleans youth to create and achieve their vision of success. To achieve this mission, we leverage our food production and service businesses to provide access to healthy meals, job training, and career advancement. We operate three main programs: our Youth Development Program, Youth Leadership Program, and School Nutrition Program. To date, Liberty's Kitchen has served over 600 young people and prepared over two million freshly prepared, healthy meals for local charter schools and day care centers.

Our Youth Development Program provides disconnected youth with workforce and career skills training to become employed and self-sufficient. We address the many issues that create barriers to self-sufficiency with wrap-around support including health care, mental health, housing, GED enrollment, child care, and financial literacy.

Our School Nutrition Program provides healthy, made-from-scratch meals to local schoolchildren, promoting youth wellness and achievement. By ensuring that students from low-income households have access to better nutrition in school, Liberty's Kitchen contributes to the fight to end childhood obesity and increase youth achievement.

Our Youth Leadership Program provides an additional eight months of support and programming to YDP graduates, enabling them to take the next step in their personal and professional lives. Programming includes advanced culinary exposure, career advancement support, education counseling, and a wide range of "next level" workshops.

Your contribution today will enable more school children to eat well, more young adults to attain stability and self-sufficiency, and more young leaders to advance in their careers and develop the skills needed to make New Orleans stronger. "Before Liberty's Kitchen I was basically living paycheck to paycheck just trying to make it through. This program is important because it helps young people get a second chance at life. It helps them build better character and be role models for other people." -- Kiall, 2015 Youth Development Program Graduate and 2016 Youth Achievement Honoree

"My life has changed tremendously because of Liberty's Kitchen. I'm working and a more responsible person. Now I actually see a future." -- Andryan, 2015 Youth Development Program Graduate and 2016 Youth Achievement Honoree
