Fundraiser Story

Troy Delone is a 46-year-old life-long resident of New Orleans. Born and raised in the Iberville Housing Project, Mr. Delone made a lot of poor choices as a youth which lead to him becoming involved with the criminal justice system at a very young age. At the age of 21 Mr. Delone found himself convicted and sentenced to two consecutive life sentences and five years on two counts of armed robbery. While in Angola Mr. Delone was able to receive his bachelorsÂ' degree in Christian Ministry from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Mr. Delone was also selected to be one of the first social mentors for the Corrections Court Reentry Program in Angola. After serving 16 years and 10 months, by the grace of God, Mr. Delone received a commutation of sentence in 2016 which was signed by Governor John Bel Edwards. Upon Mr. DeloneÂ's release, he lived in the First 72+ transitional house where he received a tremendous amount of support as he attempted to get re-acclimated to society. Through the First 72+ Mr. Delone was introduced to the STRIVE NOLA job readiness program. After completing STRIVE, Mr. Delone was able to secure employment with Ceasefire NOLA as a violence interrupter. About a year later, Mr. Delone was presented with an opportunity to be a facilitator for STRIVE at Total Community Action. Around the same time, Mr. Delone enrolled in the Master of Social Work program at Southern University at New Orleans, and obtained his Master degree. A little over a year after Mr. Delone accepted the position at Total Community Action, another employment opportunity was presented to Mr. Delone by the First 72+ to be a Reentry Case Manager for Orleans Parish Criminal District Court Section K with the Honorable Judge Marcus O. DeLarge, where he is currently employed.
