As a queer neurodivergent woman from Louisiana, I have often struggled to belong. I found community among queer, trans, and nonbinary people while I attended college. Finding a community of people who are accepting of all facets of one's identity can be life saving because it can connect you to resources such as mental health providers, but it can also inspire you to see a future for yourself, to show you a role model of the type of person you want to be. The Pride Center is the only LGBTQ+ resource center in the state of Louisiana, and as a board member, it is my personal mission to make sure that we provide services for all people regardless of where they are in their journey.
