Be Loud is near and dear to me: it was started by a fellow teacher in New Orleans, and it grew out of the momentum and excitement she and her colleagues experienced when they created a space for kids to express their creativity outside writing class. They gave kids access to microphones and video equipment and it turned out they had a LOT to say. Since then, those small, one-off sessions have grown into a thriving non-profit that offers a full summer camp to kids of a variety of ages. At a moment when it can be hard to know where to put our time, energy, and dollars to create a better future (and a better present), I am confident that Be Loud is one of the answers. It is creating spaces for kids to express themselves creatively, building their confidence and their voices at a time when it's more important than ever to speak up!
