Saul's Light is a grassroots New Orleans organization which provides care, resources, and community to families who have babies in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) or families that have experienced a stillbirth or infant loss. I've worked with Saul's Light for four years now and cannot express enough how important this work is for families in Louisiana. Being in the NICU is scary, uncertain, and an unthinkable birthing outcome for many people. By providing emotional, financial, and mental health support, Saul's Light helps to ground families during a profoundly disorienting moment in their lives. Saul's Light helps New Orleans families navigate the trauma of the NICU journey and supports them through infant loss, ultimately improving perinatal outcomes. Pairing direct support for NICU families with advocacy at the provider, facility, and state levels to address disparities in care, experiences, and outcomes, Saul's Light is working to build a world in which all parents and babies experiencing a NICU stay or infant loss receive equitable, dignified, and evidence-based care as well as the support they need to have the best possible mental and physical health outcomes.
