Fundraiser Story
The Building Functional Families program is the cornerstone of our organization. We begin with recognizing the hierarchy of needs that families living in poverty experience, meaning supportive services will always be secondary or tertiary to immediate needs like diapers, clothing, or rent and utilities. By recognizing the mental load a lack of resources creates, we provide parenting classes, mental health education, and therapy referrals, as well as diapers, wipes, clothes, hygiene supplies, feminine hygiene products, and groceries. Once parents attend class, they receive the tangible items they need, as well as the ability to sit with a staff or volunteer member to complete applications for additional support services, apply for jobs, build resumes, or simply talk about the day-to-day challenges of parenting (or adulting!).
Money raised for this program will go towards continuing our Community Resilience Workshops, which provide English as a Second Language, Parent Education, and Psychoeducation classes. Additional funds will go towards annual events, which act as community outreach opportunities for local families to engage with one another while also learning about the services we provide.
