Innocence Project New Orleans

Fundraiser Story

Please consider donating to IPNO . We need support now more than ever. Right now the Louisiana Attorney General is trying to change the post-conviction laws in the State making it more difficult for people wrongfully convicted to file pleadings to show their innocence. There is no right to counsel for people who are sentenced to life after their appeal. That means they have to get all of the documents on their own to see if there is even a claim to their innocence. But most of the evidence of innocence is found through investigation- finding DNA, paying for DNA to get tested or finding that witness who may offer exculpatory information. I am helping someone litigate their innocence after 40 years of wrongful conviction after finding helpful evidence of innocence- and the Attorney General wants to limit the amount of time someone can bring their innocence!

About the Organization

Innocence Project New Orleans (IPNO) frees innocent people sentenced to life in prison and those serving unjust sentences. We recognize the root causes of wrongful convictions and unjust sentences as systemic racism and inequities. We work to expose and address these root causes by sharing our clients' stories in court, the legislature, the community and the media. We support our clients living well and fully in the world after their release.
