Reconcile New Orleans is innovating how workforce training is delivered to support young people as they build skills, confidence, and clear pathways into meaningful careers.
Each year, Reconcile partners with young people ages 16 to 24 who are ready to work and learn, but who often face barriers accessing stable employment or education. Through hands-on training, personalized support, and real-world experience, young people gain tools to take their next step forward.
A core part of this work takes place at Café Reconcile, our nationally recognized restaurant that also serves as a paid training lab. Here, young people train side by side with professionals in a real workplace, developing practical skills while building confidence and experience that employers value.
Our training model blends job readiness, career exploration, and individualized support. Participants receive guidance that helps them navigate life challenges that can otherwise interrupt progress. This whole person approach allows young people to stay focused, build momentum, and move toward long-term personal and professional stability.
Reconcile believes that when young people are supported, communities grow stronger.
Support on this citywide day of giving helps ensure young people have access to training, guidance, and opportunity. Together, we are investing in potential and strengthening the next generation of homegrown talent from New Orleans.
P.S. Last year, more than 130 young people enrolled in Reconcile’s workforce training program, each bringing their own goals and determination. Keenan is a line cook at Compère Lapin and Vice Chair of Reconcile’s Alumni Advisory Council. Before stepping into these roles, Keenan needed support navigating into his dream of working in a James Beard Award winning kitchen, after being disconnected from work and education for a period. Like many young people, he needed experience, guidance, and a pathway to turn that goal into reality.
Through hands-on training at Café Reconcile and consistent support along the way, Keenan built skills, confidence, and momentum. He completed the program prepared for his next step and secured his spot on the Compère Lapin team through his own merits, a role he is still growing in today.
Keenan’s story shows what is possible when opportunity meets support. When young people move forward, our whole community benefits.
