Our after-school, Saturday and Summer Camp programs provide youth ages 5-14 with academic enrichment, experiences and education in the arts, healthy lifestyle and social development education. Most of our youth come from financially disadvangtaged familes and attend poor/failing schools....85% of our kids have a reading level below their school grade level -- 52% are two years or more behind! We use an arts-integrated curriculum to provide academic enhancement modeled on the STEAM approach and partner with Sylvan Learning to improve reading levels. Our partnership with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO)offers lessons on 8 different instruments. We include health, nutrition, gardening, group psych-educational counseling, and morals/ethics classes. Students attend field trips through partnerships with the Loyola University Biology Department and the New Orleans Museum of Art. Dance, choral and instrumental performances at fairs, the Microsoft Store, and LPO events builds self-esteem, public speaking and leadership skills.
Health outreach services are available to the community including blood pressure, diabetes, HIV, Hepatitis C testing, simple doctor visits, health education, medicaid application assistance and referrals. A diabetes support group meets monthly and community health education programs are offered.
Our Food Pantry provides short-term assistance to families in emergency financial situations or suffering from severe illness in the form of 2 bags of groceries per month.
