Second Harvest Food Bank

Second Harvest is leading the fight against hunger in South Louisiana through food access, advocacy, education and disaster response. One in five families in South Louisiana is at risk of hunger. We provide 34 million meals annually to 210,000 people in need across 23-parishes. Every $1 donation provides 4 meals to a hungry family. When you donate to Second Harvest, you help create a brighter future for our entire community. Thank you!

Every year, Second Harvest rescues millions of meals that would otherwise go to waste. Your support ensures that these meals make it to the dinner tables of thousands of families struggling with hunger.

Neighborhood Partner Network: Partnering with more than 700 local food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, schools and programs for youth and seniors, we serve every community across 23 South Louisiana parishes. Our Mobile Pantries deliver fresh food to clients living in areas where food pantries are scarce.

Disaster Response: Disaster response is a core part of Second Harvest's mission. We prepare year-round so we can respond immediately when a disaster strikes. Most recently, in the aftermath of Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria, we sent more than 400,000 pounds of food, water and supplies to storm victims in Southwest Louisiana, Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico.

Every Child, Every Day: The School Pantry, Kids Cafe, Summer Feeding and Backpack programs reach hungry children after school, on weekends and during school holidays. By bridging the meal gap that exists when school meals are not available, we are ensuring the most at-risk children are well-fed and able to grow, learn and achieve. We serve thousands of children every day at more than 60 schools and youth programs.

Pathways to Health: With the goal of building healthier communities, Second Harvest addresses the link between hunger and poor health. Our nutrition education programs help people make healthier choices at the food pantry and the grocery store. We also collaborate with healthcare partners to bring preventative health services to the community and provide nutritious meals to those in need.

Senior Connections: Our senior neighbors are at high risk for hunger, often choosing between costly medications and nutritious food. Second Harvest provides meals to seniors through our partner agencies, mobile pantries and our Senior Cafe Program, and we provide nutrition education tailored to the specific needs of older adults.
