Peace by Piece is a collective of young Black activists, ages 16 and up, dedicated to social justice for communities of color. Through community engagement and grassroots organizing, Peace by Piece confronts systems and institutions that engender inequality, poverty, and violence. We work in Hollygrove to promote healthy and whole neighborhoods by training youth interns to provide mentorship and education in urban agriculture and organizing around the systemic distribution of resources and economic justice.

The Sustainable Communities Project focuses closely on gardening to create food security in Hollygrove. Peace by Piece and youth residents have built two garden spaces with 17 beds in the neighborhood. The program has hosted summer camps for more than 30 children and employed ten youth leaders as interns. We are building benches and a fire pit to create an outdoor cooking space that reduces the neighborhood's dependence on fast food and convenience stores for sustenance.

Peace by Piece and the gardens are giving young people tools to sustain their community. Your support can help us broaden our impact. Help us reach our goal of 100 donors. With as little as $10, you can help ensure the success of the Sustainable Communities Project.

• A donation of $100 supports stipends for youth interns in the summer camp and afterschool programs.

• A donation of $250 supports a student's participation in the 2018 Peace by Piece Summer Camp that uses the garden spaces to understand the inequities in food production and distribution.

• A donation of $500 supports a camper's summer visit to the Peace and Justice Center and Civil Rights Memorial Center in Montgomery, Alabama.

• A donation of $1000 supports the expansion of the gardens to additional properties, further promoting food activism and an alternative food source for the community.

"Peace by Piece supported by the American Friends Service Committee has literally given me almost all of the tools I need to be successful and are continually doing so for myself and the community in which I serve. Job well done and thank you for choosing me."--Breial Kennedy, Peace by Piece Member, Teacher and Graduate Student
