COVID has been hitting our families the hardest due to the disproportionate health risks of coronavirus for Black and brown people, but also due to higher unemployment rates, lower access to technology for children struggling with distance learning, and the lack of financial stability to support families surviving months of lost income. And of course, our prisons, both adult and youth, are filled with Black and brown people who were targeted by a racist, deliberately unjust justice system and have been subjected to unsafe conditions due to coronavirus outbreaks in the past year.
