Grow Dat is a program where young people grow food, community, and understanding for the world around them. Over the course of a year,  students spend their *paid* time helping grow over 50,000lbs of food that goes directly into our local food system via a Community Supported Agriculture farm share and donations to mission aligned organizations. 

Alongside working on the farm, they participate in workshops where they gain lenses to help them think more critically about the world around us. How do we learn from the past to reimagine the future? How do we respect and learn from the earth as we grow food? How do we respect and learn from each other? 

The tools that Grow Dat provided teenager Sara took me through college, helped me succeed in other jobs, and has helped shape the way I view the world and my place in the communities I am apart of. Getting to come back and work alongside the young people, watching them find their voices and purpose while having their hands in the dirt has proven to be so rewarding. They teach me something new every day and I love learning with them. 

Donating to Grow Dat for GiveNOLA Day helps continue this work of growing leaders. It supports paying them above minimum wage for all hours worked, transportation to get them to/from work, helps us provide a hot meal on Saturdays/ every day in the summer, provides work boots and shirts for them... the list can go on!
