Baby opossums learning to eat sliced banana; a beaver delighting in the spray of a hose; an orphaned mockingbird returning to the skies; a box turtle being given antibiotics for a broken shell. This is a tiny snapshot of a day at Clearwater Wildlife Sanctuary. For almost forty years, my mom and a team of dedicated volunteers have ensured that thousands of Louisiana’s native wildlife have been able to return to our forests and waterways. It’s a 24/7 commitment: often messy and grueling, and it requires dozens of resources. Medicine! Vanilla yogurt! (baby raccoons’ favorite) Blankets! Branches! Heating pads! Every dollar means so much, and ensures that new generations of owls, songbirds, and squirrels will thrive. Wild creatures teach us valuable lessons in compassion and dignity, and the world would be a kinder, softer place if we listened to their teachings. Please consider donating, or sharing this donation link, if you are able. Thank you so much.
