In 1957, nearly 100 journalists and media professionals gathered in modest quarters in the 200 block of Camp Street in New Orleans to organize an official press club for the region - an organization that would be dedicated to promoting and improving the field of journalism, and its related professions, through professional development. Today, the Press Club of New Orleans continues to hold to that mission.
The Press Club of New Orleans is a 501 c (3) professional organization that works toward the progression and development of the field of journalism in Southeast Louisiana. PCNO's membership is comprised of over 300 media professionals, including journalists, educators in the field of journalism, and media and public relations professionals, who represent every level of their fields, from throughout the Greater New Orleans Region including Orleans, Jefferson, St. Tammany, St. Bernard and Plaquemines parishes.
The Press Club of New Orleans strives to balance its endeavors among the professional, the educational and the social. Included amongst the monthly and quarterly opportunities designed to encourage membership engagement, participation and professional growth are an annual awards banquet which encourages and rewards excellence in the print and broadcast media, as well as public relations; professional development seminars on such topics as ethics and libel and media pitching give insight to those emerging in the field and provide a forums for professional dialogue; a scholarship competition which rewards promising students with leanings toward journalism and communication; quarterly media mixers held throughout the area; and digital outreach via a monthly newsletter, our website, Pressclubneworleans.org, and our active social media presence on Twitter (@pressclubNOLA), Instagram (@pressclubNOLA) and Facebook.
