Friends of the New Orleans Fire Department
About this Organization
The Friends of the NOFD is also the primary source of funding for all Community Outreach Programs conducted by the New Orleans Fire Department. Through the purchase of Fire Safety Education materials such as coloring books for kids and informational handouts for adults. The Friends of the NOFD has helped the Fire Department sustain its many Community Outreach programs, such as: "Learn not to Burn" (for pre-school and grade-school kids), "Remembering When" (for seniors) and "Get Out and Stay Alive" (for high school and college students). The Fire Safety House, a mobile home created to simulate residential fires, was purchased, and is sustained through funds facilitated by The Friends of the NOFD as is The NOFD Fire Museum, a one-of-a-kind facility documenting the history of the Fire Service in the City of New Orleans. But perhaps the single greatest benefit provided to the residents of New Orleans by the Friends of the NOFD is the support and maintenance of the NOFD's Smoke Alarm Installation Program "Install Dat!". Since the program's inception in 2013, the NOFD has installed over 21,000 - 10yr smoke alarms in the homes of New Orleanais. All at no extra cost to the City of NO
