The Humane Society of Louisiana leads the fight against cruelty statewide. Our charity rescues animals from abuse and neglect and operates multiple programs to prevent animal abuse and to promote kindness. This life-saving work is particularly needed, as more than half of the state's parishes lack any animal shelter or rescue organization.
From our statewide headquarters in historic old Gretna, we work tirelessly to help animals around the state. Some of our programs include: Cruelty Investigation and Prevention, Spay-LA, Pet Adoption Transports, Disaster Relief and grassroots lobbying for animal protection. We also operate the annual Mardi Gras Horse Adoption Program in New Orleans. We care for animals at three animal facilities: the Enoch J. Donaldson Animal Sanctuary, the Merry Wood Refuge and the Tylertown Animal Transport Center. Each year, our hands-on programs aid thousands of homeless cats and dogs, low income animal caregivers, injured wild creatures and more.
For almost 40 years, the Humane Society of Louisiana has successfully worked to make our state a kinder place, advocating for tougher animal protection laws, more public shelters and improved services for animals. If you love animals and want to help make our state a kinder and more compassionate place, please support our critically needed work on behalf of Louisiana's abused, neglected and homeless animals.
We empower individuals and communities to create a no-kill state where the lives of all animals matter.
